Help Shape Riverside’s Future
Consultation Deadline Extended to Friday 6th September 2013.
The Riverside Association of Music and Arts are consulting the public to help them decide on future plans for events and activities, and want to hear what the local community would most like to see them do in 2014 and beyond.
Unfortunately, it has already been decided that it is simply too costly and unsustainable for the charity to continue to stage Riverside Festival’s as everyone has come to know them. RAMA Chairman Kev Thurlby said “Despite having cancellation insurance in place the costs of cancelling the festival in 2012 due the flooding of the site have nearly wiped our charity out financially. We could never have envisaged it would take so long to sort everything out, but we are still processing the claims arising from 2012! However, the end is at last in sight, an interim settlement was received in June and with the help of our Loss Adjuster we hope we will finally be able to draw a line under the 2012 festival by the end of September 2013.”
Jenny Collins RAMA’s Secretary said “Encouraged by our involvement as the East Midlands Regional Manager in the outstanding success of the recent nationwide Our Big Gig Project, we have decided it is time for RAMA to move on to new and exciting things. However, developing, encouraging, supporting and promoting music and arts will continue to remain at the heart of everything we aim to do.”
We have put together a long list of possible projects we could look to deliver in future, but before we do anything else we would like to hear what the public and most importantly our local community think – which ideas they like, which they dislike or if they have any other suggestions we could consider. This community involvement in our planning will also be vital to help us secure the necessary funds to make these projects happen.
Jenny added “We are also currently consulting the Charity Commission on re-wording our charities objectives so that we can have a little more flexibility in what we are able to do, and we hope this will enable us to support local community organisations even more in future.”
We are also appealing for anyone who would like to be involved or help in any way to get in touch. The more volunteers and offers of support RAMA receives the more we can look to deliver in future. To find out how you could help or for an informal chat about the sort of help we need please ring Jenny on 07788 534290 or Kev on 07767 880582.
Kev Thurlby said “Although many people will be sad to say goodbye to the Riverside Festival, we at least went out on a high note with the last Riverside Festival being our two day 10th anniversary celebrations in 2010. We are just as enthusiastic at the prospect of the new and innovative projects RAMA will be able to deliver in future, and very much hope the public will continue to support us.”
